GI Flight To Avoid Arrest

GIPD pursuit leads to arrest Tuesday night


(Grand Island, NE) - Tuesday night Grand Island Police observed a yellow Ford Mustang spinning doughnuts in the 1620 2nd Street Super Saver parking lot just before 9:30pm. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle. The driver then ran multiple stop signs, traveled at speeds of 74mph in a posted 30mph zone, and shut off its headlights in an effort to avoid law enforcement. The Mustang would later be tracked down at Bismark Rd and Pine Street after it was observed traveling over the posted speed limit on Locust St from Anderson St. The vehicle was clocked going 15mph over the posted speed limit of 30mph. The Mustang would then excel and flee from the traffic stop. The driver was identified as 18 year old David Gutierrez, who was identified as the driver by his father and admitted to being the driver. Gutierrez was arrested for speeding and felony flight to avoid arrest and reckless driving.
